Software is eating the world. But we are seeing what happens when software problems bring the entire world to a halt. Hospitals are down, and employees are now getting phishing attacks. Airports, banks, refineries and more are down. Today it was a small programming error. Tomorrow it could be a malicious attack from the inside or by state actors. Or an AI agent gone rogue. Or chip level malfeasance by an enemy state. But this doesn’t have to be a domesday scenario. Resilience in tech is not going to happen by talking about it. It needs to be built from the foundation up. And frankly with an environment plagued by move fast and break things ethos, tech leaders will need to take this responsibility extremely seriously. And should be held criminally accountable if found to be optimizing just for short term profits.
